Pendle Community High School and College

Phil Riley, Pendle Green Spaces Manager, and Gib Hill Guardians’ School Liaison, Sarah Cockburn-Price, were joined on a muddy ramble up and down Gib Hill this morning by the Head of Pendle Community High School and College, Debra Grogan, and Head of Geography, Jessica Thompson.

Phil litter picked as he went during our perambulation and soon filled three sacks.

Debra and Jessica were both keen to help out with litter picking with their students, whose campus is nearby.  They also told us about the practical skills some of their pupils have, especially in the sphere of woodworking, and Phil felt that they could build some new bridges to cover some of the muddiest boundaries between the fields that make the Gib Hill patchwork.

During our walk, we sadly observed the dead and dying ash trees, how dog walkers are clearly not picking up after their dogs and the opportunities for replanting the gappy hedge lines.  Pendle was shrouded in mist, but the view was still fabulous.

Thank you for your community minded offers of help, Debra and Jessica – welcome to the Gib Hill Guardians!
