About the Gib Hill Guardians

Our chief aims are:

To provide education in sustainable development and the protection, enhancement and rehabilitation of the environment, heritage assets and biological diversity. Also to promote study and research in such subjects provided that the useful results of such study are disseminated to the public at large.

Promote, for the benefit of the public, the conservation, protection and improvement of the physical and natural upland environment by promoting protection of heritage assets and biological diversity.

William Stephenson – Chair 

Living on the hill itself, William was part of the long running campaign to save the Hill via Hillside Heroes and became Chair of Gib Hill Guardians once the Local Nature Reserve was registered with Natural England.

With two decades involvement in the campaign to save Gib Hill, Andrew’s family home is on the Hill.

Mark Chung

A keen rambler, Mark volunteers with Pendle Borough Council to repair gates and stiles on Pendle’s extensive footpath network.

Karen Howarth

A mummy of six and grandmother of ten, Karen is a classroom assistant at Primet Primary and loves getting out in the great outdoors as a Forest School Trainer.

Alison Plackett

A keen ecologist, Alison saw the value of Gib Hill’s extensive grassland habitat and has fought long and hard to save it.  She now provides input as to priority habitats and their enhancement on the hill.

Phil Riley

Green Spaces Manager at Pendle Council; Phil drafted our initial management strategy for Gib Hill and submitted the application to Natural England.

Chris McKee 

Chris is Pendle Council’s Green Spaces Assistant and is pivotal in arranging community work days at Gib Hill.

Sarah is a Borough and Town Councillor and, as the founder of the Colne Youth Action Group, is our schools’ liaison.
